As many of you will be aware the committee decided a number of months ago to explore the possibility of some form of closer co-operation with other swimming clubs within Newcastle.
There were a number of factors which influenced this initiative, not least being the closure of the city pool, the Council’s decision to sell off the remaining pools to private companies, and the practical and financial realities of attempting to negotiate available water time, at an affordable price, with the new pool operator. In addition, separate from financial pressures and realities, the ASA have been supporting / promoting the concept of one elite performance club in each area for some time.
City of Newcastle ASC swimmers got the New Year off to a fine start at the Sunderland Aquatic
Centre by claiming the top club trophy at the New Year Meet hosted by Sunderland. In a year that
holds the possibility of massive changes for swimming within the city the club posted some excellent
results in the first 50m meet of the 2013/2014 season for most of the swimmers.
