TORCH RELAY

WILL HARDY - who swims for the City of Newcastle ASC and trains at both Gosforth Dolphins and B Squad will be carrying the Olympic Torch through Newcastle. 14 year old Will is on the World Class Talent ID Programme with British Swimming. He lost limbs due to meningitis when he was 23 months old. He was awarded the Clubs Tim Reddish Trophy in 2009 (see photo). Will is carrying the torch on one of its stages through Newcastle on 15th June.

RACHEL HAIGH - now at Leeds University -is also carrying the Torch in the Leeds area. Rachel swam in Newcastle from being a Jesmond Dolphin through to AAA squad when she became in International swimmer representing GB at the World Youth Games in Mexico in 2008.

ELENI PAPADOPOULOS - has also been selected to carry the torch in Newcastle. She started her swimming career with Gosforth Dolphins, competing for City of Newcastle during this time. She now swims with City of Manchester University where she is studying and recently won Gold in the 100 fly at the British Disability Champs in the Olympic Pool, gaining two British Records in the same event. She has swam for team GB.

OLYMPIC PARK RUN

RACHEL SMEDLEY - AAA swimmer is one of 5000 people selected for the run and they will be the first athletes to cross the finish line in the Olympic Stadium on March 31st. Watching Rachel in the stands will be a proud Mam and Dad and bring nostalgia flooding back to Ray who ran the 10k for GB at the Munich Olympics in 1972.

AA Squad is also represented in the first run to cross the finish line in the Olympic Stadium through Miriam Jessett and Zak Logue

Junior League rule change 2012

2012-01-22

New rules re age group categories: Swimmers who are aged 9 - 12 on or before 24th JUNE 2012 are eligibile to swim in the Northumberland and Durham district rounds/ final. This is the date of the N&D area final. Therefore some swimmers may be competing in the same age group as 2011. ALL swimmers who meet this criteria are allowed to swim, providing they are members of CONASC/if selected to swim.

No other news to report as yet. I am meeting with coaches in the next few weeks to plan the season ahead. I will update all swimmers and parents when I get more information.

PLEASE CHECK THE FIXTURES ON OUR WEBSITE. I would appreciate it if swimmers who are NOT available to swim on the date of the first round let me know asap.

Many thanks

Anna Hardingham - Team Manager
